Dust Storm
Last week I was going from the state of Washington to Wyoming to pick up a load when I saw these clouds in the sky ahead of me. The closer I got the darker the clouds got. I though that I was for sure in for a large rain.. When I got into the clouds there was no rain just dust. It was very thick and everwhere. It was my first dust storm and very different.

cheap meal
I am at a Petro truck stop and they have this give away going on where you get a scratch ticket like the lottery. 1st prize is a cheeseburger and fries for $.75 and 2nd prize is pie for $.25 and third is root beer float for $.25 and 4th is a soft drink for $.25 It is called price of the 50s.
I won the first prize and the 4th prize. I just got thru eating the meal. Before the discount it was $10.72. With the winning tickets my price was $1.08. Would like to eat a few meals for that.

wide truck
I picked up this truck in Dallas, Tx. and delivered it to Duluth, Mn.
When I loaded it I put the tape on it and found out that it is 9feet and 6inches wide.
If it is over 8feet 6 inches wide it is an oversize load and you have to have permits to move it.
Now I wanted to know what they would use this truck for it it had to have a permit to use it.
I asked the person to whom I was delivering it to what they were going to do with it.
They put a bucket lift on it like the power co. uses. He also said that it was going to Saudi Araba and in the desert out there it did not matter that it was wide. You never know what we in the trucking business will find.

wind power
Last week I was in southern Ca. the San Diego area. I spent the night on top of a mountain and when I got up the next morning to go into town to make my delivery. I looked across the road and this is what I saw. It was foggy and there were several wind mills on the hill on the other side of the road. The bottom is what I saw without zoom. Then as I zoomed in you could see the blades turning but only at around 3oclock and then up to around 9oclock. that was the fog line.
Just though it was pretty interesting.

wind power
I delevered 21 pallets of large bolts and nuts to a job site today in Cheyenne, Wy.
It went to a wind farm. They are putting up more windmills. There is a lot of them there now and a large project going on to install more. The bolts are used to put it together with. I asked the project manager how much it cost to put one windmill up. I had read some where that it was a million dollars per unit. He said that was about right. I counted over 50 of them do the math. A lot of money but the wind blows a lot in Wy. so maybe they will pay for them soon.

smoke generator
That was what I was told to go pick up the other day. When I got there this what it turned out to be. It does not run they had to load it with a crane and also to unload it the same way. When I was in the Army we had smoke grenades to throw to cover up our movement. Today I guess they have this. When I got to Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md. I was told they would use this in a training class... I found out that it not only puts out smoke but also chemicals

Stuck on the Interstate
The other day when I was delivering the two trucks to Ca. I came upon a sign on Interstate 40 in Arizona that said road closed between mile post 233 and 253 for high winds and low visibility. When I got there traffic was stopped. We all shut down our trucks and got out and talked . After a while I got out a western book and started reading. We sat there about 4 hours. While I was reading another driver came up and asked if I had some jumper cables that his truck would not crank. I told him that I had some but I could not get close enough to his batteries to jump him. We talked a car in front of him to turn around and face him and let him use the car battery. It worked and we got him started. When the wind finally died down some they opened the road and let up proceed. What caused the problem was that the state was working on a side road and had a lot of loose dirt piled up and the wind was blowing around 60 or 70 mph and blew the dirt over the highway and caused the poor visibility. There were about 5 trucks that wrecked at that spot. No problems after that.
